Abstract
Beaver River Gas Field: A Fractured Carbonate Reservoir
Abstract
The Beaver River Gas Field, located in the Liard Fold Belt of northeastern British Columbia and the southern Yukon Territory, produces from a massive, extensively fractured, Middle Devonian carbonate reservoir. This reservoir is the result of a high degree of diagenetic and tectonic alteration to a relatively monotonous carbonate bank sequence. The cores and the production history from Beaver River present an excellent example of a fractured carbonate reservoir, the pore geometry in such a reservoir, and the problems involved in evaluating such a reservoir. It is also an excellent example of the performance and recovery efficiency of a fractured gas reservoir with an active water drive.
