Abstract
During a research programme, the Compagnie Francaise des Petroles has had the opportunity to refine the stratigraphy of the Famennian in northern France, using the previous table of formations from Gosselet.
Qualitative and quantitative microfacies analysis, distribution of microfauna and microflora (Foraminifera, Ostracods, Conodonts, Algae) and logging informations on wells, permits both the use of Gosselet’s formation names and their definition with new criteria, and leads to coherent correlations between the two wells described and the classic outcrop section in the railway cutting between Fourmies and Avesnes.
