Environmental Applications of the Pseudoseismic Technique

Abstract

Wireline well log data collected over a period of time are often used for monitoring subsurface conditions in environmentally threatened areas. Traditional interpretation techniques work well with small wireline well log data sets; however, data sets can become cumbersome or unmanageable when they are large. An alternative method of displaying and interpreting this type of data is by reformatting the digital well log data and using seismic interpretation software. This technique, called pseudoseismic, allows large quantities of digital well log data to be displayed and interpreted rapidly with relative ease. To illustrate the use of this technique, it has been applied to a digital conductivity well log data set from southcentral Kansas to aid in understanding subtle changes in groundwater salinity levels.
