The Upper Devonian Clastic Wedge in Southeastern Turkey

I. P. Tunbridge

Abstract

The Upper Devonian in southeastern Turkey is represented by a Famennian-age regressive-transgressive fluvio-deltaic clastic wedge, known as the Yiginli Formation. The lower, regressive part of the formation consists of mixed wave and river dominated deltaic sediments. The upper part of the formation is the product of mixed wave and tidally dominated deltaic sedimentation. Deltaic conditions were terminated in late Strunian time by rising sea levels which produced the black shales of the Koprulu Formation.
