ABSTRACT

The title of this paper is purposely worded in terminology which actually defines the nature of the project. The New Hope water drives are "primary" in the sense that displacement takes place above saturation pressure; they are "artificial" in the sense that the water does not come in naturally from an aquifer; and they are "frontal" in nature as opposed to the pattern types of water drives now used in many secondary recovery operations. This terminology is compatible with the present usage of such terms as "primary recovery"; "secondary recovery"; and "pressure maintenance".
