Geology of Hub Field, Marion County, Mississippi

Wilbur H. Knight (2)

ABSTRACT

The Hub field, Marion County, Mississippi was discovered in 1945. The Hub structure is a simply faulted anticline which was found by reflection seismograph. It is believed the structure was formed by the local upward movement of salt, which movement terminated near the close of Eocene time. Three reservoirs are present ranging in depth from 7965 to 10,120 feet and ranging in age from Eagleford (Gulf Cretaceous) to Dantzler (Comanche Cretaceous). The principal reservoir is the lower Tuscaloosa (Gulf Cretaceous) which is characterized by a thick gas-cap underlain by a thin oil zone. This reservoir has been unitized by all operators for pressure-maintenance by gas injection which will result in greater ultimate recovery and permit an increased daily rate of oil production.
