ABSTRACT: "Jefferson Island Previous HitSaltNext Hit Dome"

Jay B. Wharton, Jr.

ABSTRACT

This paper concerns itself primarily with the development of the south and east Previous HitflanksNext Hit of the Jefferson Island dome where approximately 2 1/2 million barrels of oil have been produced to January, 1952. Exploration and mining in the supra-Previous HitsaltNext Hit sediments were discussed in detail in a 1935 AAPG paper. Six sands carrying oil or gas have been found between 7500^prime and 8700^prime in the steeply dipping flank sediments. Individual reservoirs are small as a result of a complexity of radial faulting. The west and north Previous HitflanksNext Hit are essentially unexplored.

The Previous HitsaltTop plug rises to sea level but is covered by a mound about 70 feet high. Varying amounts of overhang are found between 1000^prime and 3000^prime with a broad shoulder present at 10,000^prime.
