ABSTRACT

This paper concerns itself primarily with the development of the south and east flanks of the Jefferson Island dome where approximately 2 1/2 million barrels of oil have been produced to January, 1952. Exploration and mining in the supra-salt sediments were discussed in detail in a 1935 AAPG paper. Six sands carrying oil or gas have been found between 7500 and 8700 in the steeply dipping flank sediments. Individual reservoirs are small as a result of a complexity of radial faulting. The west and north flanks are essentially unexplored.

The salt plug rises to sea level but is covered by a mound about 70 feet high. Varying amounts of overhang are found between 1000 and 3000 with a broad shoulder present at 10,000.
