ABSTRACT: East Haynesville Field, Claiborne Parish, Louisiana

John T. Palmer (1)

ABSTRACT

The East Haynesville Field, located in 23N-6, 7W, Claiborne Parish, North Louisiana, was discovered by Hunt Oil Company in 1945. Since then, extensive drilling has resulted in seven separate pay zones ranging from the Lower Cretaceous (Rodessa) 4100^prime to the Upper Jurassic (Smackover Limestone) - 10,500^prime.

End_Page 146------------------------

Accumulation is controlled by structure and lenticular sand conditions in the Lower Cretaceous zones. However, both structure and reef-like deposition control accumulation in the Upper Jurassic - Haynesville and Smackover pay zones. No Previous HitfaultingNext Hit is found in the Lower Cretaceous or in the Cotton Valley Group of the Upper Jurassic. But below the Haynesville - Cotton Valley unconformity, graben type Previous HitfaultingTop is found with faults ranging in magnitude up to 1000^prime of throw.
