New Accumulations Found Beneath North Flank Overhang Cote Blanche Island, St. Mary Parish, LA.

Allen R. Stern (1)

ABSTRACT

Subsurface and geophysical data combined with experience in deep drilling in the nearby Weeks Island salt dome were employed successfully to find a gas-condensate accumulation beneath a huge overhang of a shallow, piercement type salt dome of South Louisiana. It is believed this is the first time a well has been drilled successfully through a salt overhang nearly 13,000 feet thick.
