ABSTRACT

The Crain Zone is a typical oolitic lime porosity of the Pettit formation. It is productive for a distance of more than 45 miles in a northwest-southeast direction from the Bethany-Carthage area of north Panola County, Texas. Net effective porosities vary from 0 to 16 feet and are not entirely inter-connected. Production was first obtained in 1948, but developments during 1945-55 have indicated the great areal extent of this zone. Over 125 producers have been completed pervious to July 1, 1955 and drilling is still in progress. Conditions for the deposition of this reservoir were unusually uniform over a very extensive area and were partly unrelated to factors that caused the present structural configuration.
