The Structure and Stratigraphy of Erath Field

Joseph H. Hawkins

ABSTRACT

The Erath field is located in Vermilion Parish, Louisiana. It is a domal structure which probably owes its genesis to deep seated salt movement. The structural high shifts northward with increasing depth. Production from the field is essentially gas-distillate.

There are two faults associated with the structure, each owing its genesis to two respective periods of uplift. The older of the two has had a major role in the accumulation of hydrocarbons in the deep Planulina zone due to its effect on deposition; the younger fault appears to have had no effect on the accumulation. It is therefore concluded that migration of the hydrocarbons to the structural high occurred prior to the existence of this fault.
