Abstract
Pre-Ferry Lake Lower Cretaceous Deltas of South Mississippi and Producing Trends
Dale Reese (1)
ABSTRACT
Increased gas prices have renewed interest in the deeper portion of the Mississippi salt basin. Rejuvenated exploration has resulted in significant gas discoveries, notably Bassfield (Hosston), Jefferson Davis County.
Drilling has indicated productive development extends farther southward into the basin than previously believed. The problem of determining the downdip limits of commercially productive sand development is shared with many other Gulf Coast plays. Sand facies maps are presented to determine the productive fairway with available well control. Pre-Ferry Lake Cretaceous sands are shown to have been deposited in low energy deltaic environments; the relationship of these deltas to Jurassic and younger Cretaceous deltas is discussed.
