Black Lake Field Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana: A Review

Jonas Bailey (1)

ABSTRACT

Black Lake Field in Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana, is a structurally simple field which produces from a single pay horizon: a Lower Cretaceous biohermal reef. The reef is porous in the Black Lake area, and dips to the southeast (primarily due to the influence of the Sabine Uplift to the northwest). The reefing dies out in the updip direction, forming a permeability barrier. Hydrocarbons (primarily gas) migrating updip through the reef have been trapped against the barrier, thereby producing a sizeable hydrocarbon reservoir. This paper reviews the exploration and developmental history of the field, and details the stratigraphic and structural features present there.
