Recent Advancements in Reservoir Description Techniques

ABSTRACT

Advanced and integrated formation evaluation techniques are essential in describing lithologically and structurally complex reservoirs. A data bank is created by integrating geological, geophysical, and well (log, core, and production) data. Well log normalization, a key element utilized for accurate reservoir description, is achieved via crossplots, histograms, and maps which illustrate the distribution of normalization correction for the field under study.

Reservoir parameters are computed using advanced interpretation techniques and results are compared to core-derived values. Accurate core or production data enable the log responses to be calibrated for computing porosity, permeability, and clay typing. Additionally, a reservoir parameter summary program computes average and cumulative values used to generate reservoir isopach maps.

Examples of reservoir descriptions utilizing this technique are presented.
