Abstract
Rigsite Geological Interpretation of a Deepwater Horizontal Well
Tom S. Schroeder (1), Michael F. Medeiros (2)
ABSTRACT
In October, 1996, Shell Offshore Inc. drilled a successful deepwater horizontal development well to the Late Miocene "M2.8" sand. Several stratigraphic models were proposed for the M2.8 sand, which was estimated to have a gross sand thickness of 14 m (46 ft). The development objective was to transect the entire M2.8 sand at a high angle and obtain 183 m (600 ft) of productive interval for horizontal completion. This paper shows the rigsite geologic interpretation methods which helped make this well a success.
