Evolution of the Geological Model, Lobster Field (Ewing Bank 873)

ABSTRACT

The geological model of Lobster field has evolved from a simple pre-drill model to a complex reservoir management tool for directing further field development. The pre-drill geological model, based on regional well data and Previous Hit3-DNext Hit seismic amplitude response, correctly predicted the presence of oil filled, reservoir quality basin floor fans. Data from the discovery well, three delineation wells with full log suites, two whole cores and a new Previous Hit3-DNext Hit seismic survey added detail to the geological model. East side and west side reservoir compartments were identified based on reservoir pressure data, pvt data, geochemical analysis of the oil and different oil/water contacts. A Previous Hit3-DNext Hit geological model was built using Stratamodel software prior to development and a conceptual, full field Eclipse reservoir model was initiated. The geological/reservoir model is being continuously updated to reflect actual field performance. Constraint geometry from inverted, Previous HitprestackNext Hit Previous HittimeNext Hit-migrated Previous Hit3-DTop seismic data sharpened Bul. 1 lobe definition. Understanding of sand body and salt geometries were enhanced by a reconstruction of the basin formation based on extensive regional mapping of salt and sequence boundaries. All available data were integrated to guide an infill drilling program. New deeper discoveries are also producing as a result of the focused interpretation.
