Abstract: Visualization Blended into Computational Simulations: Academia and Industry Working Together at the LITE

Carolina Cruz-Neira1

Abstract

The unique collaboration between the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and the Lafayette Economic Development Authority (LEDA) has made possible the establishment of the Louisiana Immersive Technologies Enterprise (LITE). LITE is a one-of-a-kind facility that connects the most creative and dynamic academic minds with the most innovative and forward-looking industry visionaries. These two groups become a team at LITE to perform advanced research in the integration of visualization and supercomputing. LITE's research activities address the challenges involved with the real-time visualization and interaction with large-scale data and simulations. LITE goes beyond traditional university research centers by having a strong emphasis on finding practical solutions to complex problems, by putting theory into practice, and by creating innovation driven by industry needs. This presentation will provide an introduction to LITE, its current research activities, and will close with a discussion on how to get involved in this exciting initiative.
