Extended Abstract: Fresh Outlook in Numerical Methods for Geodynamics

Gabriele Morra

Abstract

I present here an overview on how geodynamics is changing in the new age of Big Data, illustrating examples of how the community is preparing for the roaring twenties, the when Data Analytics and Geodynamic Modeling will merge, with the help of Artificial Intelligence. Recent efforts have shown how machine learning, neural networks in particular, but also unsupervised learning, offer new options to geophysicists to interact with Big Data. Previous HitHighNext Hit Previous HitPerformanceNext Hit Previous HitComputingTop (HPC) plays a central role in this transformation, which requires scientists to be aware of the evolution of the available hardware. I conclude talking of how to educate students and professionals on emerging programming languages and on the importance of scientific software communities. Figures 1 and 2 provide illustrative aspects.
