Abstract
The Bollan Stegosaurus
Abstract
In March 1978, two caudal vertebrae, a fragmented but complete tail spike, and several pieces of plate material constituted the original find of the Bollan Stegosaurus. Eight years later, on Sept. 21,1986, the find was brought to international attention with a report of the discovery of 75% of the fossilized remains of a Stegosaurus ungulatus. The site is in Rabbit Valley, in western Colorado, 25 mi west of Grand Junction. The bones were collected 25 ft above the base of the Brushy Basin Member of the Upper Jurassic Morrison Formation. The age of the bones is estimated at about 145 million years.
