Abstract
Preliminary Description of a New Fossil Scorpion from the Middle Eocene, Green River Formation, Rio Blanco County, Colorado
Abstract
A new species of fossil scorpion, Uintascorpio halandrasi, was discovered in the middle Eocene Green River Formation, Rio Blanco County, CO, by William D. Hawes and Paula Ott on April 24, 1991. Comparison with other known pulmonate, terrestrial scorpions shows this to be the most complete and best preserved of any previously known specimen. Uintascorpio appears to be morphologically similar to members of the modern-day family Vaejovidae. A formal description is in preparation.
