Supporting Oil Drilling Rigs in Indonesian Swamps

Paul M. Reed, Johannes Karundeng

Abstract

Drilling locations on hard ground have created conventional procedures for supporting drilling platforms. Depletion of oil reserves in easily accessible locations is forcing oil companies to extend their search for oil offshore to greater ocean depths and inland to remote marshes and swamps. This paper discusses deficiencies in the present method of constructing onshore platforms in areas where Previous HitsoilTop support is inadequate to prevent large settlements or displacements. Non-conventional methods of support which limit settlement are discussed. Examples of non-conventional methods of support used in Indonesia are given.
