Reservoir Simulation of Arun Field

Djoko Harsono

Abstract

The Arun natural gas field, one of the largest gas fields in the world, is located onshore in the North Sumatra Basin, Aceh Province, Sumatra, Indonesia. The field is operated by Mobil Oil Indonesia/Pertamina. A reservoir simulation study of this field was performed using a 3-phase, 3-dimensional black-oil simulator (Mobil's ALPURS) modified to handle a gas-gas-water system. A successful match of the historical reservoir performance was obtained based on approximately six years of pressure and production data. The model was then used to predict reservoir performance under various producing scenarios.

The study indicates that the Arun reservoir is performing as expected. The field can supply gas to meet existing long term contractual commitments. The study concludes that Mobil's ALPURS Model is a valuable planning and evaluation tool for Arun reservoir management.
