Abstract
Resistivity Measurements and Their Interpretations Using Dual Laterolog and Dual Induction Log in Gunung Kemala and Benuang Fields, South Palembang District, Pertamina UEP-II
Abstract
Gunung Kemala and Benuang are structures in the South Palembang District, South Sumatra, producing gas, condensate, and oil. The sand layers, 17 in Gunung Kemala and 23 in Benuang, belong to the Talang Akar formation. These sands are developed as a good reservoir, but the lime of the Baturaja formation did not develop well in either area.
The Dual Laterolog (DLL) and Dual Induction Log (DIL) were run with other logs for formation evaluation purposes in both fields.
The Dual Laterolog shows more optimistic results than the Dual Induction Log, as true resistivity (Rt) readings from the DLL are always higher than from the DIL.
A quick look analysis indicates that DIL resistivity readings are close to real values of formation resistivity, because of the enviromental condition of fresh water mud that was used during drilling operations.
The DLL is more accurate for thin or laminated beds and high resistivity beds. To overcome the limitation of the physical measurement of each tool both DIL and DLL are suggested to be run in exploration wells for better evaluation.
