Evaluation of Fractured Well Pressure Build-Up

Wildan F. Ervan

Abstract

To optimize the development of low permeability gas reservoirs, fracture treatments are frequently required. It is imperative that the post-fracture performance of each well be analyzed to determine the effectiveness of the fracture treatment. Several methods have been presented in the literature for analyzing pressure build-up data of fractured wells. In this work, the limitations and advantages of four of these techniques are discussed. These characteristic have not always been emphasized in the original literature and have, in some cases, remained obscure to the practicing engineer. It is shown how different methods may be combined to accomplish a reliable analysis with a field case illustration.
