Some Fresh/Brackish Water Depositional Enviroments in the S.E. Asian Tertiary with Emphasis on Coal Bearing & Lacustrine Deposits and their Source Rock Potential

J. M. Cole

Abstract

Terrestrial coal bearing sedimentary sequences where oil prone organic material was laid down within the S.E. Asian tertiary have been studied. Much information has been obtained by a detailed examination of palynomorphs, Previous HitkerogenNext Hit types and sedimentary textures and structures (Previous HitpalynofaciesNext Hit Previous HitanalysisTop) over several coal bearing clastic and carbonate sequences. Arguments are presented that favour autochthonous coal deposits as more favourable oil sources than allochthonous coals. However, quantitatively lacustrine environments may be the most important oil source beds in S.E. Asia.
