Environmental Health in Petroleum Operations

Oemar Fauzy, Roland Siregar

Abstract

Provision of a safe, clean and healthy workplace for the worker and the family is a key management responsibility. This becomes particularly important and challenging for companies operating in a remote tropical environment. This paper reports PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia's efforts to maintain a safe, clean and healthy environment in its operating areas in Riau Province, Sumatra, Indonesia. Various programs related to environmental sanitation, industrial hygiene, pest control and health education are discussed. An effective management organization dedicated to a clearly-stated policy and environmental code is essential in achieving safe, clean and healthy work practices. This requires continuous effort.
