Quality Improvement in Primary Cementing

Timothy A. Nagy

Abstract

This paper describes the quality improvement process and the results that have been obtained by a multidisciplinary team functioning in Caltex Pacific Indonesia (CPI). This team was formed in 1991 due to the high frequency and cost of squeeze cementing on new wells. The efforts of this team have helped reduce the overall squeeze frequency from about 50% to about 10% of new wells. This improvement will reduce CPI's new well cost by about 10 million dollars per year. This saving is a result of efforts to, "do the cement jobs right the first time," thus eliminating the need to fix wells by squeeze cementing.
