Relation of Reservoir Condition Changes to Precision Gravity Measurement with Contribution 3-D Model in Kamojang Geothermal Field

T. H. Silitonga, Kh. Rozaq, L. I. Lubis, D. Satyajit

Abstract

Exploitation of geothermal fluids can change reservoir mass and this change can alter pressure, temperature and hydrological conditions. Changes in reservoir mass can be detected by precision, surface-gravity measurements. Monitoring changes in gravity data in a geothermal field will help to disclose changes in subsurface conditions. Reservoir pressure and temperature should be regularly and accurately monitored. This data, integrated with gravity, 3-D models and well data, can be of great help in effective reservoir management programs.

Precise gravity measurements have been carried out in the Kamojang geothermal field since 1984. Analysis of the data show good correlations between changes in surface gravity and changes in reservoir conditions.
