Perf Stim/Power Perf Completion Techniques

J. Gilliat

Abstract

This paper describes experiences with the new extreme overbalance technique that involves the release of a proppant into high velocity fluid stream at the moment of perforation. This proppant serves to improve the connectivity and conductivity of the perforation by scouring and to a lesser extent propping open the newly created fractures caused by the extreme overbalance treatment.

This paper briefly describes the mechanical aspects of the TCP/proppant carrier system, and then will focus on the field results of the system to date. Also discussed will be stimulations close to water zones, recommended permeability ranges for system optimization and productivity comparisons to other techniques.

This system has had excellent success in enhancing inflow performance of higher permeability reservoirs with low bottom hole pressures, near well bore damage, and high positive skins. The technique has also been useful as a pre frac evaluation tool.
