Ibrahim's comments + on my short, regional
paper (Sharief, 1982a) provide a welcome opportunity to discuss
problems concerning the stratigraphy and paleogeography of the
Permian-Triassic rocks of the Middle East. Unfortunately, most of
his comments are based on data revealed in the literature which
have been superseded in part by more recent work. The data
presented in my paper are the results of detailed field
investigations including stratigraphy, sedimentation,
petrographic studies of outcrop samples and the analyses of
subsurface control points, including composite stratigraphic well
logs and core samples that were made available during the past
seven years from different sources (e.g. oil companies.
governmental institutions, personal collections). The great bulk
of these data are being presented elsewhere (Sharief, in prep.).
