A RIFT-RELATED STRATIGRAPHIC TRAP

Nils Fagerland*

* Saga Petroleum A.S., Maries Vei 20, PO Box 9, 1322 Høvik, Norway.

Note added in proof stage:A possible negative feature of this trap needs to be mentioned. A thin silt-layer was deposited directly on top of the sand as a sheet deposit. This siltstone with an occasional trace of fine sand may extend far enough east to drain the reservoir, either totally or partially, due to its permeability. This is to be tested by drilling.

Abstract

During the prospectivity analysis of the 40 blocks of the 8th Norwegian round of licensing, a potential "giant" stratigraphic trap was discovered. Its evolutionary history makes it especially interesting from a regional point of view.
