The Lower Pierson Fauna of West-Central Missouri

A. C. Spreng

Abstract

A preliminary comparative study of the lower Pierson fauna in the Spring-field type area has been made with the fauna of the brown-weathering, silty dolomitic beds lying below the Burlington limestone and above the Northview formation in west-central Missouri, north of the Springfield type area. These silty dolomitic beds formerly designated as the basal Burlington, the "Spirifer zone"1 of the Burlington, or the upper part of the Sedalia,2,3 are here considered to be a northward extension of the lower Pierson.
