Abstract
Geology of the Aetna Gas Field, Franklin and Logan Counties, Arkansas
ABSTRACT
The Aetna Gas Field is in Franklin and Logan Counties, Arkansas. Athletic Mining and Smelting Company drilled the No. 1 Mantooth, Section 16, T8N, R27W, in 1955, as the discovery well in the Aetna Gas Field for deep Atoka and Morrow gas. Seven shallow wells have been drilled, and twenty-six deep wells, with 24 deep producers and two dry holes. Total calculated open flow potential of the field was 317,800 MCFGPD thru 1961. Accumulated production thru 1961 was 27,731,454 MCFG. The natural gas from the Aetna Field is almost 98 percent methane. Reserves of individual wells range from one billion to over 25 billion. The horizontal limits of the field have not been determined. Structure, faulting, and stratigraphic pinchouts are present in the field. The horizontal limits of production have not been determined, and the pre-Mississippian rocks have not been penetrated.
