Why Should We Pay for a Merged Survey that Contains the Data We Already Have? An Oklahoma Red Fork Example

Yoryenys Del Moro, Alfredo Fernandez Abad, Kurt J. Marfurt

Abstract

The Red Fork sandstone of the Anadarko Basin has been extensively explored and produced, and was a target for early 3D seismic acquisition programs in the 1990s. Significant resources remain, such that many of these legacy surveys have been reprocessed and merged by commercial seismic processing companies to provide more regional coverage. Merging multiple seismic data volumes prior to migration increases the migration aperture and hence the lateral resolution of faults, channel edges, and steeply dipping reflectors that were previously unimaged along the edges of the original surveys.
