Abstract
Frequency Percentage Determinations of Detrital Quartz and Feldspar
R. Dana Russell
ABSTRACT
Certain types of detrital quartz grains are described which may easily be confused with some of the plagioclase feldspars, particularly oligoclase and andesine. These grains appear to be quite common in some sediments. Their presence in any abundance slows down the accurate determination of frequency percentages of the minerals to a considerable extent. A simple staining method is described which eliminates this difficulty.
