Notes on the Dielectric Separation of Mineral Grains

Gilman A. Berg

ABSTRACT

Experiments dealing with the dielectric separation of mineral grains indicate that the best results may be obtained by using ordinary 60-cycle alternating current stepped up to 880 volts. Furfural and benzene, mixed in varying proportions, supply the most satisfactory media. Grains of a given mineral may be separated quite effectively from others that have a distinctly higher or lower dielectric constant. The dielectric constants of 38 minerals determined in the above media are tabulated.
