"Cave Pearls" in a Cave Near Columbia, Missouri

W. D. Keller

ABSTRACT

The occurrence of "cave pearls" in a cave near Columbia, Mo., is described. Growth on the upper (rough) surface is chiefly through an accretion of precipitated calcium carbonate grains, whereas the underside (smooth) grows by crystal growth. The growth rate of the former exceeds that of the latter.
