Abstract
Near Shore Coral Lagoon Sediments from Raiatea, Society Islands
J. T. Stark, E. C. Dapples
ABSTRACT
Sediments from the Raiatea lagoon are strikingly uniform in mineralogical and mechanical composition. They are composed almost exclusively of comminuted coral reef fragments, and are well sorted sands of very coarse to medium grain size. Comparison with other coral lagoon sediments from the Pacific indicate marked absence of terrestrial material, and a tendency for the size frequency curves to be skewed in a negative phi direction due to absence of silt and clay particles.
