Abstract
Sandstone Types and Their Associated Depositional Environments
E. C. Dapples
ABSTRACT
Sandstones are classified as platform and basin deposits. Platform sands accumulate under conditions of tectonic stability and steady, uniform currents. Basin sands are deposited in rapidly subsiding areas, or zones of heavy sedimentation where rhythmic current intensities prevail. Each major group is further subdivided into petrographic types whose characteristics are indicated and whose environments of deposition are inferred.
