Extraordinarily Coarse Eolian Sand of the Ica Desert, Peru

Norman D. Newell, Donald W. Boyd

ABSTRACT

Eolian sandstreams along the Peruvian coast locally are composed of well-sorted granules of country rock in which the modal class exceeds three mm and the coarsest grains are six or seven mm in diameter. Generally this coarse sand is a first generation deposit and does not owe its sorting to earlier generations of sediments.
