Abstract
Eolian Varving in the Colorado Plateau: NOTES
Wm. Lee Stokes
ABSTRACT
Sets of cross-beds composed of very regular alternations of thick and thin components are present locally in eolian sandstones of the Colorado Plateau, especially in the Early Jurassic Navajo Sandstone. The paris of contrasting and alternating layers are interpreted as varves; the thick components are regarded as having formed during seasons of strong, effective wind action, the thin components during seasons of low effective wind action.
