Paleoenvironmental Significance of Carbon Isotopic Composition of Siderite Nodules in Some Shales of Pennsylvanian Age

J. N. Weber, E. G. Williams, M. L. Keith

ABSTRACT

Analysis of C13/C12 ratios of penecontemporaneous siderite nodules from shales showed complete separation of the freshwater group from the two Previous HitmarineNext Hit groups, and a partial separation of restricted Previous HitmarineNext Hit and Previous HitmarineTop. Some of the anomalous results can be explained by contamination by secondary calcite and possible errors of environmental classification.
