Scour Marks in Snow

ABSTRACT
Scour marks of two kinds were observed after a snow-fall: scour-remnant ridges (new name), and current crescents (Peabody, 1947) of large dimensions. Scour-remnant ridges preserved within the crescents showed the latter to have formed in relation to symmetrical or asymmetrical, helicoidal eddies having curved quasi-horizontal axes. The inferred flow pattern is consistent with that given by fluid mechanics theory as the pattern associated with a bluff object mounted on a flat plate.
