Abstract
Application of the Electron Microscope to the Study of Particle Orientation and Fissility in Shale
Mack Gipson, Jr. (2)
ABSTRACT
A detailed investigation of sand, silt, and clay-size particle orientation and organic material of shale specimens was made with the petrographic and electron microscopes to determine the relations of these features. Strong associations were revealed. Fissile planes in zones of preferentially-oriented particles, interfaces between organic materials and zones of both preferentially and randomly-oriented sedimentary material were detected.
