On the Use of the Term "Amplitude" in Ripple Mark Description: NOTES

ABSTRACT
The vertical distance from crest to trough of a ripple, which is commonly referred to as 'amplitude' by geologists, is actually a parameter comparable to about twice the amplitude of the corresponding wave. The term 'amplitude' has a specific connotation in physics and hence it is suggested that a purely descriptive term (for example, ripple height) be used by the geologists to define this parameter.
