Abstract
Anthraxolite Derived from Indigenous Organic Matter in Middle Devonian Dolomite, Cosmos Hills, Alaska
Donald D. Runnells (2)
ABSTRACT
Anthraxolite occurs in the Middle Devonian dolomite wallrock of the Ruby Creek copper deposit, in the Cosmos Hills, Alaska. The anthraxolite is present as scattered grains, irregular veinlets, fracture fillings, and concentrations along stylolitic surfaces. There is apparently no genetic relationship between the copper sulfide mineralization and the anthraxolite. Petrographic evidence indicates that the anthraxolite is derived from tiny particles of indigenous organic matter excluded from the grains of dolomite during recrystallization.
