Theory of Sieving: NOTES

Basanta K. Sahu (2)

ABSTRACT

Sieves sort material not only according to the size but also according to the shape and the roundness of the particles. The present paper gives a quantitative estimate of the dependency of size upon the shape and roundness of the particle for the various possible (idealized) cases, and it is probable that the same relations will hold true for both the non-ideal and the intermediate type of grains. The results of this paper will be helpful for the interpretation of sieve data in sedimentology and in other fields where sieving is used.
