Abstract
Some Deductions on the Temporal Significance of Laminae Deposited by Current Action In Clastic Rocks
Alan V. Jopling
ABSTRACT
Depending on the environment of deposition, the time required for the deposition of a lamina may range from a fraction of a second to many years. However, for most granular cohesionless materials deposited by current action either as bed-load, or as combined bed-and-suspended load, it is probable that the formative period ranges from a few seconds to a few hours. An estimate of the number of laminae transected in an outcrop or section may provide a useful guide to the minimum time of formation of the deposit.
