Abstract
Variations in Mineral Composition During Transport: NOTES
Romeo M. Flores
ABSTRACT
Processes operative during transport are believed to modify the proportions of mineral composition in the downstream direction. Studies of recent sediments, particularly stream-laid deposits, report impoverishment in feldspar and other less durable mineral particles in the direction of transport. This paper has shown that variations in quartz, feldspar, and mica content of the Lower Freeport sandstone are mostly attributable to grain size. Tests show no significant overall change in proportions of these minerals; thus progressive change in mineral composition during transport was negligible for the Lower Freeport sandstone.
