Abstract
The Crest Length and Sinuosity of Some Marine Sand Waves: NOTES
Neil H. Kenyon, Arthur E. Stride
ABSTRACT
Crests of sand waves on the European continental shelf have been followed for up to 3 miles using Asdic equipment. Examples of straight crested, slightly sinuous crested, and barchan-like sand waves are shown. They seem to be members of a gradational series, which casts doubt on the value of some descriptive classifications. The sinuosity may be related to the abundance of transportable sand and the shape of the tidal current ellipse.
